Well Written With Ornate Garden

March 20, 2020 Filed Under: Gallery, Project Gallery

Here’s another “sneak peek” using items from The Ornate Gardens Suite. This is a brand new Suite of products you will be able to order April 1st, no fooling!  And I think you will love them. I am showing the paper, one of the frames in the die cut set and the marvelous Gilded Gems. See more from the Ornate Gardens Suite HERE!

The sentiment is from the Timeless Tulips set and was exactly what I wanted to design a card around. I tried the tulips with all sorts of designs and nothing worked for me. When I get stuck on coming up with a card design, my “go to” is to look through Designer Series Papers(DSP) to see if anything sparks an idea. And this paper from the Ornate Gardens was the one that gave me an idea!

After some hits and misses, the Well Written dies had “vines” to make the “ephemera” I needed to complement the sentiment. After I had the die cuts, ribbon and gems added, I still thought the card needed one more little thing for balance. I spotted the bird in the Well Written Dies and viola! The card was done.

Stampin’ Tip: When adding “ephemera” to a card, you don’t always have to glue every part down securely. Add enough glue to one end to secure them and then leave the rest loose. It gives a card more texture and interest. To mail it securely, all you need to do it cover the card front with a plain piece of card stock and slide it in the envelope. That will keep your “ephemera” in place until it gets to your recipient.

And what the heck is “ephemera”,  you ask? Well, it’s a term I see in scrapbook and art for all the bits and bobs of embellishments, die cuts, stickers, ribbon scraps, etc. you may have on hand and can use to frame or accessorize a piece of art, like a card design!

Hopping Along With Fabled Friends and More Friends From InKing Royalty!

March 18, 2020 Filed Under: Gallery, Project Gallery

I am so excited to participate in my first blog hop ever this week! And how appropriate the theme is for a blog “hop”…. Easter! And as luck would have it, my card features a “sneak peek” of a new Designer Series Paper(DSP) along with a flower stamp perfect for any bunny from the upcoming Ornate Style set! All of it layered on top of a new Ornate Layers Die.

All of these are from a special group of products in the upcoming 2020-2021 Annual Catalog that you will be able to get starting April 1st. These worked perfectly with the Easter theme and the Fable Friends bunny stamp I wanted to use. It’s such fun!  See all the products in this suite HERE! And get your list ready for April 1st! And if you have a sharp eye, apparently the products in this suite give us a sneak peek of a new In Color coming with the catalog launch in June. I think it is a new green or yellow, but I am not sure! Let me know if you see it.

Watch out for some more “sneak peeks” that I will show in some upcoming posts as well as the “opening day” for ordering April 1st. And no, I am not fooling. It’s really gonna happen!

Stampin’ Tip: I want to point out the strip of Rococo Rose linen ribbon I have under the sentiment. This is the lacy edge of the Scalloped Linen Trim. I just ripped it off and tucked it under my sentiment. I needed something light and feathery as my embellishment and this did the trick. It frays and gets all rough along the edges, but I think that is part of the charm!

Well, that is it for me!  Brian is up next.  You are sure to love his card and all the others in this blog hop. Enjoy and have fun! Thank you to Brian and his team for inviting me today. It was great fun!  Hop on over to Brian’s Blog to start!

Thoughts with Woven Threads

March 12, 2020 Filed Under: Gallery, Project Gallery

We have so many beautiful DesignerPapers in the Stampin’ Up! catalog and I just love the Woven Threads DSP. I think I love it because the designs are so faded and soft. Sort of like antique drapes or upholstery.  I think I also love it because it coordinates perfectly with the newest set of In Colors. And this design that highlights Seaside Spray and Rocco Rose is a special favorite.

This card was for my monthly Demonstrator Group challenge. I wish we had a blog hop so everyone’s designs could be shared. Each month we set a general theme and the cards are fabulous. I think I will ask next month if I can post them all on my blog. Trust me, it will be a treat for you to see all the wonderful creations!

This month, the theme was “Thinking of You”. We try to create designs that feature the product well and that we think will inspire our customers to create. And we try to include a little technique. For example, I used a frame from the Lakeside die set for the sentiment and backed it with a rectangle of DSP, just to give it a different look. Its a simple layering technique that requires only your paper trimmer! But it can really set off a sentiment.

I used the Forever Blossoms set from the Parisian Blossoms Suite in the January-June Mini Catalog. It was a perfect fit for the paper. Paris is famous for its street markets where many fashion designers look for antique and vintage linens and fabrics as inspiration for prints. I can imagine this DSP being created from some of those finds.

So, take a look at the Woven Heirlooms Threads Suite and create your own special Heirloom!
