Very Simply Susan

I know I just did a frog card, but I had to do another once I noticed this firefly in the Jar of Love set!  Perfect for this little guy! And very funny with this sentiment. And while I got lots of new stamps, I did not order much DSP.  So, I had to be creative and make sure I used black & white in my color scheme.  I have always loved the combination of green and black, so it wasn’t hard for me to come up with a design.

I was stuck at home all this past weekend because the roads a in front of my house got new pavement and we cannot drive on the concrete for a few days. I decided I did not want to move my car up the street so I just kept it in the garage and decided to stay home.  If I really had to go somewhere, I could just “Uber” there, which I did Friday! For the weekend,   I took this dilemma as a perfect opportunity to stay home and catch up on projects, including some stamping!  Saturday, I missed going to an all day crop  with friends. The logistics of getting all my stamping supplies up the street into my car was not appealing for a Saturday morning. Especially since temperatures were expected to hit near 100 degrees today.  But we were able to share our work all day long by going “virtual”.  We texted messages and photos back and forth all day.  While I wasn’t there, I feel like I was part of the group for the day!  This is the kind of stuff I love about being part of the “Community of Stampin’ Up!”.

Well, this is the first of a few cards I made on Saturday.

This card is a little special to me because I made it for a friend’s child who was bullied at school.  The short story is that some girls wrote ugly things in his  yearbook and my guess is kept others from writing in it at all.  Of course, he was devastated and came home crying.  It is shocking to know this still happens. And these are young kids, not high school age.  I felt terribly upset about it from the moment I heard about it.  I just wonder when this will end. But I have to say his Mother took things in hand by asking friends to send messages by mail so she can put them in his yearbook.  She reached out to everyone on Facebook and I have to really applaud her actions.  People started posting lots of positive messages for Noah and with all the Facebook attention, he cheered up and happily posed with a “Thank You” sign for everyone!

So, of course I had to make a card for my message for Noah.  I chose Marquee Messages because the sentiment is perfect and just what I wanted to say.  I added more bling than I normally would, but it seemed to match the feeling on this card and the age of the young man. I am just happy to have seen so many people rally around this really great little guy and hopefully make him forget what happened. On Saturday, I saw that his Mother posted a wonderful image of Noah and his brother playing in the sand at Hallendale Beach.  It was good to see him smiling!

I believe in the power of sending a handmade card to someone.  I just wish I would do it more!

This is my entry for this weeks Global Design Project.  The theme is Get Well Soon.  Mine is not exactly a “get Well Card” I had a specific design in mind for trying out this new copper embossing powder and the sentiment shown is a “Get Well” wish of sorts!  There are lots of great ideas for actual “Get Well Cards” over at Global Design Project. I have been dying to try out this copper embossing powder since I saw it at On Stage.  It has been sitting on my desk since April and this is when I finally got around to trying it out.  All I can say is love, love, love this!  I have been missing this color since the Brushed Copper paper was retired.  Copper has such a rich look to it.  And while I love silver and gold, copper is so unexpected and yet so on trend right now. The image does not show it well, but the embossed badge looks as if it is made it of metal. And, I am keeping my fingers crossed that we see Copper Foil paper soon! As you can see, we did get the copper thread.  I generally just make a big “bird’s nest” with the metallic threads.  I think you need lots of it for it to show against a DSP background.  And I don’t care if I am messy with it.  I love the shine!
