Make New Friends, But Keep The Old…

April 25, 2016 Filed Under: Gallery, Project Gallery

Those of you who were in Scouts(Boy or Girl), should remember the old song, “Make new friends, but keep the old, one is silver and the other gold!”  That little tune went through my m mind when I was doing this card.  The 2014-2016 In Colors have been incredibly good friends over the last 2 years. But I had to introduce them to a new friend from the 2016-2017 catalog, Marquee Messages! I got this stamp set free while attending Stampin’ Up! On Stage 2016. This funky little stamp set will be available June 1 when the new catalog debuts. If you are on my Stampin’ Up mailing list, look for a copy in late May.

If you are not on the list, but would like to be,  then please sign up by this Friday, April 27th and I will add you to the list.  You can sign up by clicking on “Contact Me” above and filling in the information requested and adding your address in the comments section.  You will be added to my mailing list!

Now, back to the story about old friends vs new friends.  I used some of the 2014-2016 In Colors for this card. When the catalog retires May 30th, these colors along with many of the stamp sets will retire.  I hate to see these colors go.  And the DSP used in this card, Farmer’s Market was used to decorate my kitchen the last 2 Thanksgivings! But I have stashed some away to use again and I will hang on to my In Colors for a while.  I love them all too much.

But I am very excited about new stamp sets and the 2016-2018 In Colors! Keep an eye out for some future posts using these fabulous new colors! And the new stamp set you are seeing in this card is just one of the many great new designs in the catalog. I have to say the new catalog coming up in June is one of the best Stampin’ Up has done in a long time. It really blew me away when I saw it! And I know I probably say this every year, but this one is great with a lot of different looks. Don’t forget to sign up for my mailing list. I would not want you to miss getting this catalog!

All About Everything Paper Pumpkin! #GDP032

As soon as I saw the challenge for this week’s Global Design Project, I knew I wanted to use the bonus stamp set in the April Paper Pumpkin  called “All about Everything“. I loved the advertising announcing the bonus stamp set and I was soooo hoping it would look like the artwork in the ads and it does.  So much so,  I decided to use the same color scheme…almost.  I think they used Mint Macaron and Watermelon Wonder.  But I liked it much better with Mint Macaron and Calypso Coral colors.

The theme for this week’s Global Design Project is “Case the Designer” #GDP032.  The idea is to take a card done by Krista Frattin and put your own “spin on it”or “Copy And Share Everything(CASE)”.   Per the rules of the challenge, you can choose layout, theme, colors or any other part of the card design to case.  To see what the challenge is all about and what Krista has done, click on the icon below.

What I chose to CASE is how Krista made the colors soft and put the design focus off to one side rather than in the center.  You can also see I CASE’d the Paper Pumpkin ads as well!  I had a lot of fun doing the card and the design.  I love, love, love the stamp set!  These are the kind of goodies you get being a Paper Pumpkin subscriber.  And as if this fabulous stamp set isn’t enough, check out what else came in the box this month!  It is a kit to make a cute itty bitty little wreath.  You have stamps for “Happy Spring” as well as “Happy Mother’s Day” included.  I look forward to making it soon!  If you want to know more about Paper Pumpkin, click HERE!

Green Botanicals

The background for this card had been sitting on my desk for several weeks.  I loved the green colors in the DSP paper and the green lace trim.  But I was at a loss as to what to do for the rest of the card.  When I finally figured out what I wanted to do for my Global Design Project Card last week (Which you can see HERE!), I thought the Botanical die cuts were just the thing for this card as well.  Then instead of a stamped sentiment, I felt the kraft paper background of the DSP made the wood element perfect for this card.  This card would need a bold sentiment to even show up and using a 3-D item was  the perfect finish.

The lace behind the DSP is the 1″ Dotted Lace Trim. So that it had a finished edge on both sides of the DSP, I cut down the ribbon and adhered the scalloped edge to both sides of the strip. Viola! A perfect lace trim. And an unexpected touch with the bold paper and colors that I think works very well, especially with the die cuts.

I have loved doing cards with the Shine On DSP.  Both of the patterned papers in this card are from that DSP set. The bold bright colors and the metallic shine on some are a new and unique type of patterned paper background.  The extra weight of the paper also give the cards an elegant and expensive look.

Recipe

Papers: Shine On Specialty DSP, Cucumber Crush, Watermelon Wonder
Stamps: Botanical Blooms
Ink: Watermelon Wonder
Embellishments: Basic Rhinestones, Expressions Natural Elements, 1″ Dotted Lace in Cucumber Crush.
