I have entered once already this week for the Global Design Project Challenge, #GDP157.  But I kept seeing all these untraditional and light colors being used for Halloween cards, so I thought, “why not try it in the Challenge colors? I love the color combination and it kind of works for “untraditional” Halloween colors.  And I love the Spooky Treats stamp set, so why not give it another try?

I tried the card out using the Mint Macaron as the “sky”, but that did not work at all.  The Grapefruit Grove was the way to go for a Halloween Sky. Everything was easy after that and I managed to use only the Challenge colors in inks, ribbons and paper!  Usually there is a compromise here and there for black ink or Very Vanilla paper, but this card uses only the three colors of the challenge in paper, embellishments and ink!

I haven’t participated in the Global Design Project Challenge for a few weeks. But the Color Challenges always catch my eye and spur a burst of creativity!  I always love the unique combinations they choose for the Color Challenges.  In fact, the last Global Design Project Challenge I entered was a Color Challenge and I won a “Special Mention” that I was very excited and happy to get!!!!  You can see that card HERE!

As always with a Color Challenge, my first go to are Stampin’ Up!’s wonderful array of Designer Series Papers. I found exactly what I needed in the Nature’s Poem DSP and a paper from the Tranquil Textures DSP.  In fact, I CASEd myself from another Global Design Project entry for today’s card.  So, I guess you can say I am all about the Global Design Project today! The new Spooky Bats Punch has been calling my name for a few days now!  And of course, the matching stamp set Spooky Sweets has been hard to resist as well. I have had the idea for this card design in my mind for a while, but I was afraid to open up my Toil & Trouble DSP and see if anything was in there that would work for the bottom half of the card. And lo and behold, there was the perfect design! In fact, the design  of the paper was so perfect, it inspired my final color scheme of Mango Melody, Pumpkin Pie and Basic Black.

Colors Used

The card is fast and easy to do because of the punches. The moon was punched using the Twinkle Builder punch and of course, the Spooky Bats punch for the bats!  I could have used the Twinkle Builder to punch out the stars in Silver Foil paper, but the Twinkle Adhesive backed sequins are sooooo much easier.  The clouds were stamped using Basic Gray as that gave them a spookier, more ominous look.

Well, speaking of twinkle, the Glittered Organdy Ribbon is simply marvelous for those of us who like lots of bling on their cards!  The ribbon is what inspired me to add the silver stars. Once I start adding bling, I can’t stop. And you may be asking, where did I find the Pumpkin Pie ribbon?  Well, we don’t have Pumpkin Pie ribbon, but we do have 1/8″ white organdy ribbon and Stampin’ Blends in Pumpkin Pie! Just color any white ribbon with a Stampin’ Blend and you have a custom color!
