Shades of Green – #GDP044

Today’s wonderful card in shades of green is my entry for the Global Design Project #GDP044.  This is “Case The Designer” week and the challenge allows for a pretty liberal interpretation of that.  What I wanted was a watercolor look without having to watercolor.  The Blooms & Bliss DSP gives a lot of great choices for a watercolor background.  I also used the paper to create a layer of the butterfly as well.  I chose the shades of green papers #1 because I love green and #2 because I love the Mint Macaron and Island Indigo together.  In this paper they create the look of Malachite.  So, this is my interpretation of this weeks #GDP044 “Case the Designer Challenge”.  You will see plenty of other really fine work by clicking on the logo below.

To give the butterfly an even more watercolor look, I cut out another of the butterfly thinlit in Indigo Ink, stamped the butterfly “body part” on it and then clipped away until I had the look I thought I wanted.  Then I just added wisps of Island Indigo ink to make it look even more watercolored. I am very happy with the way it turned out!  To match the dotted background on the sentiment banner, I used the dotted border from Watercolor Wings and stamped off in Mint Macaron.

Tropical Riot!

This literally is a tropical riot!  I just wanted to stamp something last night and  simply sat down and did this.  The idea came from a Michaels ad, believe it or not.  I did not worry that I did not stamp off as well as I could or that the flamingo’s beak probably should have been colored in with black.  It was stamping for the pure joy of it.  The only thing I had to pull back on was adding the pineapple.  My “good stamper self said no, it is too much!” My “carefree stamper self said I want that pineapple and stamped it!”  Sometimes you just have to go with your “carefree stamper self”and just have fun!  And that is how this card turned in to a big tropical riot!

I started out with the new In Colors. I really thought I wanted a Flirty Flamingo flamingo.  But Flirty Flamingo wasn’t working with Emerald Envy…to me.  That is where the true value of the Stampin Up color system comes in.  I went right to the Brights collection and used that family of colors and did not have to worry about color clashes.

And also used was a “good stamper” trick.  Another wing for the flamingo was stamped on a scrap, fussy cut and then I popped it with a dimensional.  It is hard to see in this picture, but it does make the flamingo look pretty darn flirty.  And one more “good stamper” hint.  I wanted to show as much of the DSP as possible.  So, I cut to the size of the card stock base and layered it as the front.  I really need to use this trick more.  There is no reason not to cover up the card base sometimes.  Since I was all about brights on this card, Melon Mambo was used for the card base.

Weather or Not A Rainy Day!

This cute umbrella card is just the thing to brighten up a rainy day!  This is another swap card I made.  For this particular swap, you signed up for certain sections in the catalog and then chose stamp sets from your chosen sections.  It was a great way to do a swap because you know you will get a variety of cards from throughout the catalog if you participate in a lot of the sections.  I specifically chose this section because I wanted to use the Weather Together stamp set.  I love umbrellas and this set has so many options for them.  There are also a lot of possibilities for sentiments as well.

I apologize for the dark image, but it is the only way to get the embossed background to show up. And do you notice the embossed background? It is made using the “Softly Falling” embossing folder. It makes great snow scenes for winter and I think it is a great “rain” background as well!

I had a lot of fun doing this card and showing off some of the new DSP as well as this very cute stamp set.  It is great as a thank you card as shown, but with this set you could create so many things for a baby or wedding shower such as invitations, favors, hostess gifts, etc.  If you have this set, give it a try.  The possibilities are endless!
