Time for Love #GDP018

January 13, 2016 Filed Under: Gallery, Project Gallery

I just love this simple little card.  When I saw the challenge for this week’s Global Design Project #GDP018, I knew exactly what I wanted to do.  And Happy Home was the first stamp set that came to mind.  At first, I was going to do a circle, but once I decided to put the hearts on the bench, I really had to go for the heart frame. But any shape that would frame the stamped design would work.

I used two stamps from Happy Home and masked out the clouds so the tree would fit in.  I could have left 2 of the clouds in, but I liked the clean look without them.  I dappled the tree leaves with So Saffron and Old Olive just to give it some dimension.  And the two hearts on the bench were done using the owl punch. They were the smallest hearts I could find!  I have a silver pin that is a bench with two hearts on it and I have always loved that pin.  When it came time for the sentiment, I had to go simple.  And I love this phrase from the retired Good Greetings set.  This is one that I wish had not retired!  The color scheme is one I have always loved, Real Red and Smoky Slate.  I love how red plays so well off of gray colors.

Enjoy!  I am hoping to do some more Valentine’s cards soon!

Papers: Whisper White, Real Red, Smoky Slate

Happiness

Today’s card is from a color combination that was the Challenge for the Global Design Project last week.  I was a little late doing the challenge, but since I had this idea in my head anyway, I decided to do it tonight.  And I love working on project while I am watching award shows.  So, with the Golden Globes on in the background, This is the card I came up with!

The card uses the challenge color story of Rose Red, Garden Green and Crumb Cake, a truly wonderful combination.  And both Rose Red and Garden Green get forgotten too often.  So, it is nice to get a change to use them.  I also got to use the new Timeless Textures set to make the background on the Garden Green.  I used 2 stamps from the set to stamp a border on the top and bottom of the green. I also felt the flower needed a bit of framing, so I cut a circle and then colored it with the Wink of Stella to give it a little sparkle! The Wink of Stella pen is a great way to add glitter or sparkle without the mess!  And glitter with no mess is stamping happiness!

This simple card is the second one I did for the mail in swap.  I love the new Washi tape in the Botanical Garden suite.  I have used this set of Washi tapes more than any other since Stampin’ Up introduced them. I love the colors and designs and how well they work back to the papers.  Just beautiful.  I have also been using the Botanical Builder framelets dies a lot as well.  I had seen several cards with borders using this die and I really wanted to try it.  Well, I love it!  I have also send some cards with a layered 2-color border and I hope to try that technique this weekend on a few cards.

Honestly, I bought everything in the Botanical Gardens suite. The design, colors and embellishments were all fabulous and really a “new” look for Stampin’ Up.  I was happy to see it!  I hope to work on some 3-D projects with the flower dies as well.  We will see!
