Pressed Petals for #GDP202

August 12, 2019 Filed Under: Gallery, Project Gallery

Pressed Petals

This is a quick little card using Pressed Petals DSP for the Global Design Project’s sketch project #GDP202. I needed a little inspiration today and a challenge was just the thing to get me started.

I was really keen on using the Pressed Petals DSP for this project. Mostly because I started out with a stamped image from the Slice of Happiness set and I was determined Pressed Petals would be perfect for it. But after a few tries, that idea went no where!

So, I figured I would just stay true to the challenge’s sketch design and still use the Pressed Petals paper. This simple little card is what I came up with. I immediately like the border I could create at the bottom that matched the background paper. And because I was going after a “vintage-country” look, using the Corrugated Embossing folder was the perfect backdrop. I kept it simple and resisted the order to add some punched daisies and leaves! Overall, I liked how it came out.

Its early in the week to see many ideas, but bookmark the Global Design Project’s page to visit in a few days or click on the image below to see lots of great ideas the designers did for this challenge and scroll through the other challenged. And I encourage you to try a challenge! They are a great source of inspiration and ideas.

Thinking of You With Woven Heirlooms

August 1, 2019 Filed Under: Gallery, Project Gallery

Woven Threads

Here is a sweet Thinking of You card using Woven Heirlooms stamp set and the Woven Threads DSP, two of my favorite things in the new catalog! I love the vintage fonts on Woven Heirlooms. The sentiments almost look like 18th century handwriting. Its a very small set, but you have sentiments for sympathy, weddings, love, thank you and just thinking of you.  That’s a lot of card making options for a small stamp set!

And the matching Designer Series Paper is wonderful because it is a perfect match to all the new In Colors for 2019-2021! The patterns are soft and very vintage. This card front is all DSP. I layered one of the plainest patterns over the card stock base and as the sentiment background You get a solid color background with some texture.

To set off the sentiment, I kept thinking I needed something else. The card already had a lot of layers plus ribbon, thread and some faceted gems, so I can’t imagine why I wanted more! But I did.  I tried punching out a few leaves in vellum, but the plain vellum wasn’t working.  So I colored the vellum with a Stampin Blend, which gave them a slight bit of color. It was just enough.

If you like vintage, you will love the Woven Threads Suite!

Tropical Chic for The Holidays!

July 30, 2019 Filed Under: Gallery, Project Gallery

How’s this idea for a tropical Christmas card!  I had a “Christmas in July” swap with a group of Demonstrators last week and I decided to go tropical for it! After all, it is July!  And we always need tropical holiday ideas. I grew up in Florida where the holidays don’t necessarily mean snow and hot chocolate! Plus, south of the equator, the holidays occur in summer.  Bright holiday colors using the Tropical Chic set seemed like a great idea for a “Christmas in July” swap!

Actually, my card revolved around wanting to use the Red Rhinestones. I decided I needed a card design with bling and I wanted to use the red. The rhinestones are not a deep red, definitely more on the bright side, so I thought they looked great with Lovely Lipstick and Call Me Clover, the 2018-2020 In Colors.  And this bright take on “traditional holiday colors” seemed to be a better fit with the Tropical Chic stamp set rather than Real Red and Garden Green or Olive. The card was a really “simple” design I CASED from Connie Stewart that you can see HERE. I had this card on my Pinterest Board forever and this was finally the time I needed the idea to figure out my “Tropical Christmas” card.

What I love most is the corner rounding on opposite corners and the simplicity of the card layout. Connie used a simple black and Lovely Lipstick design for a thank you card. But it was easy to convert that idea to a holiday look.  And of course, I carried the theme through to the inside sentiment!

Tropical Chic

For those of us who are used to celebrating Christmas in a sunny, warm climate, here’s a great take on using the Tropical Chic set for your holiday card.  And you can start now!  The holidays will be here before you know it!
